Guide
How IIUI admission merit is calculated
International Islamic University, Islamabad has two official undergraduate merit formulas, and which one applies depends on your programme rather than on you. Most IIUI undergraduate programmes have no admission test at all: merit is calculated on previous qualifications alone, SSC at 40% and HSSC at 60%. That is the default in the selector above.
Some programmes need a test because an accreditation body requires one. Engineering programmes under the Pakistan Engineering Council are the main example. There the formula changes to 60% test and 40% previous qualifications, with that 40% split as SSC 15% and HSSC 25%. The test is not added on top. It takes weight away from your school record.
IIUI's admission policy adds an important caveat: where an accreditation body publishes its own guidelines, those win over the university's generic split. If you are applying to an accredited engineering programme, read your programme's advertisement rather than assuming the 15/25/60 numbers.
The Formula
No test (PQM basis): Merit % = SSC % × 0.40 + HSSC % × 0.60Test required: Merit % = SSC % × 0.15 + HSSC % × 0.25 + Test % × 0.60Component % = (Obtained ÷ Total) × 100PQM means Previous Qualification Marks. IIUI does not round merit up. Its policy says 49.99% stays 49.99%, not 50%.
Worked Examples
Example 1: a programme with no admission test
SSC 900 out of 1100, HSSC 850 out of 1100.
| SSC percentage | (900 ÷ 1100) × 100 = 81.82% |
|---|---|
| SSC contribution (40%) | 81.82 × 0.40 = 32.73 |
| HSSC percentage | (850 ÷ 1100) × 100 = 77.27% |
| HSSC contribution (60%) | 77.27 × 0.60 = 46.36 |
Example 2: the same student on a test-based programme
Same SSC and HSSC marks, plus an admission test score of 70 out of 100.
| Test contribution (60%) | 70.00 × 0.60 = 42.00 |
|---|---|
| HSSC contribution (25%) | 77.27 × 0.25 = 19.32 |
| SSC contribution (15%) | 81.82 × 0.15 = 12.27 |
| Change from the no-test formula | 73.59 − 79.09 = −5.50 |
Frequently Asked Questions
Does IIUI require an entry test for undergraduate admission?
For most programmes, no. Its admission policy states that undergraduate merit is determined on previous qualifications and 'there is no admission test at undergraduate level except for those programs where it is required by the accreditation bodies'. Engineering programmes under PEC are the usual exception.
Which formula should I pick in the selector?
If your programme advertises an admission test as mandatory, pick 'Admission test required'. Otherwise pick the PQM option. If you are unsure, the programme's own admission advertisement says which applies.
Does IIUI round my merit percentage up?
No, and it says so explicitly: 'The absolute value of percentage is considered as final; it is not rounded off to next whole number e.g. 49.99% is considered 49.99% and NOT 50%.' If a programme needs 50%, 49.99 does not clear it.
I am awaiting my HSSC result. What happens?
IIUI's policy calculates merit for result-awaiting candidates on the basis of 60% of the actual marks obtained in Part-I. Admission is provisional until you submit the full result within 15 days of the semester starting.
Are there additional marks for Hafiz-e-Quran?
IIUI has provisions for Hafiz-e-Quran candidates, particularly on Islamic Studies programmes. These are not part of the base formula above, so check your faculty's advertisement for what applies to your programme.
Can I apply to more than one programme?
Yes. IIUI lets you pick five programmes from the same faculty on one application fee. Applying across different faculties costs an extra processing fee per faculty.
